Patrick Dougherty

“It’s a long-term event. It usually takes 20 years before you get what you think you deserve the first year. Artists should do what they’re compelled to do, and let art history take care of itself. If you start worrying about whether something is historically significant, or if it’s good, even before you start a project, you’re going to be stymied and not be able to go forward. If you work hard at it, it’ll happen for you.”
